Sustainability & Environment
Coastal and shelf environments are among the most ecologically sensitive in the world. We operate in them every day — and we take that responsibility seriously.
"We drill for energy, but we live by the sea. Responsible operations are not a compliance box — they are the only way we are willing to work."
Our Environmental Approach
Every drilling campaign begins with a comprehensive Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plan tailored to the operating environment. Dedicated equipment, trained personnel, and pre-positioned response materials on every rig — before spud.
We operate under zero overboard discharge protocols wherever ecologically sensitive areas are designated. All drilling fluids, produced water, and hazardous materials are managed, contained, and disposed of through licensed onshore facilities.
Fuel consumption, flaring, and exhaust emissions are monitored and recorded continuously. We benchmark performance across operations and target year-on-year improvement in energy efficiency. Generator optimisation programmes are implemented fleet-wide.
All waste streams — domestic, industrial, and hazardous — are classified, manifested, and tracked from source to licensed disposal. Segregation facilities are provided on all rigs. We report waste volumes to clients as part of regular environmental reporting.
Environmental baseline surveys are conducted before operations in new locations. Marine exclusion zones are observed during anchor handling and rig moves. Noise and light management protocols are in place to minimise impact on coastal marine ecosystems.
We recognise that coastal communities depend on the same waters we operate in. We engage with local stakeholders, support environmental monitoring initiatives, and actively participate in industry working groups focused on responsible nearshore drilling practices.
Our Position
The world needs energy. Coastal Vessel Drilling plays a role in delivering it — and we hold no apology for that. Oil and gas from responsibly operated offshore wells powers economies, supports livelihoods, and funds the energy transition itself.
What we do hold ourselves accountable for is how we operate. An independent contractor drilling in coastal waters can do so in a way that respects the environment and the communities nearby — or it can cut corners. We choose not to cut corners.
We are not a renewable energy company. But we are a drilling company that believes responsible operations and long-term thinking are the only viable path forward — for our industry and for the ecosystems we work alongside.
Our Commitments
Every new operating location receives an environmental baseline review before mobilisation — water quality, marine life activity, and sensitive area identification.
Environmental conditions, discharge events, and waste volumes are recorded daily and included in client reporting alongside operational data.
A site-specific waste management plan is implemented for every campaign. All waste streams are segregated, manifested, and transported by licensed disposal contractors.
Any unplanned release — regardless of volume — is immediately reported, contained, and investigated. We do not minimise, delay, or conceal discharge events from regulators or clients.
All vessels in our fleet comply fully with MARPOL Annex I (oil), Annex II (noxious substances), and Annex V (garbage) — maintained and verified through classification society surveys.
We conduct an annual internal audit of environmental performance across all operations, identify areas for improvement, and set measurable targets for the following year.
